Harare – The Health Professions Authority and Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe have warned the public against unregistered health facilities and the illegal sale of prescription medicines.
In a joint statement, the regulators said inspections revealed unlicensed facilities dispensing regulated drugs including Phenobarbital, Tramadol, Fluconazole, Glibenclamide and Co-trimoxazole without qualified staff or prescriptions.
HPA and MCAZ said prescription medicines must only be dispensed by licensed pharmacists in registered pharmacies. Buying from unauthorized sources risks incorrect dosing, dangerous drug interactions, antimicrobial resistance, and falsified medicines.
The authorities noted that operating unlicensed facilities and selling unregistered medicines violate the Health Professions Act and Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act. Offenders face prosecution.
The public is urged to verify that clinics display a valid Practicing Certificate, HPA Premise Registration Certificate, and MCAZ Licence. Suspicious facilities should be reported to HPA on +263 78 258 8614 or MCAZ on +263 71 885 5934.
