HARARE – West Prop Holdings Chief Executive Officer Ken Sharpe says Zimbabwe’s property future must be built on green, sustainable developments and inclusive growth beyond Harare as the company advances its “billion bricks by 2050” vision.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 7th Annual ZimReal Property Investment Forum at Hyatt Regency Harare on Wednesday 26 August 2026, Sharpe said environmental responsibility is now central to construction.
“You know, it’s a new standard in the world. We are working closely with several organizations, and we believe that it’s the way of the future,” he said. “Because if you do not build something that’s sustainable, it has less chance of lasting a long time. We are a company of multi-generations. So definitely green buildings, not only in terms of green energy but in terms of greenery as well, is important.”
He pointed to The Hills Luxury Golf Estate as the flagship example. The estate integrates energy-efficient homes with extensive landscaping, tree planting and water-wise design to preserve natural habitat while creating a resort-style environment.
Block 4, recently launched and commissioned by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, reflects that approach ahead of the upcoming Africa Green Building Summit.
Sharpe said West Prop is about 10% to its target with close to “100 billion bricks in the ground.” He also called for deeper capital markets and confirmed expansion to small towns like Chivhu. “We’re an inclusive company, so we don’t limit ourselves to one demographic,” he said.
