Churchill stormed in the Copa Coca Cola finals on Friday at Churchill High School as they beat Mufakose High 1 3-1 in the provincial finals.
Under the theme ”Taste the feeling”, Coca Cola bottlers, sponsors of Copa Coca Cola under 16 boys and under17 girls soccer tournament held the provincial finals in the ten provinces on Friday. Only Matabeleland North and South provinces will have their finals on Wednesday and Tuesday respectively.
It was a hive of activity at Churchill high school as Harare province finalists battled it out.Churchill and Mufakose High 1 proceeded to the finals in the boys and girls category. Churchill conceded a first minute goal through a penalty after their defender had handled inside the eighteen area. This did not detent Churchill from piling pressure on Mufakose High 1.
Immaculate passing by Churchill strikers levelled the match as Sean Muzinde intercepted a cut- in to score for Churchill. Brian Chimbo put Churchill ahead after he made a body swerve to dodge the Mufakose goal keeper and created a goal. Sean scored the brace from Munashe Phiri’s assist to make the score line 3-1 before half time.
The 2nd half was tense as Mufakose tried to come from behind whilst Churchill had many shots off target in the eighteen area.
Prince Edward was disqualified as their players did not have the required original grade seven results slips. Many applauded the disqualification of Prince Edward.”This shows that soccer is improving as age cheating is being exposed unlike in the past years”, remarked a teacher at the tournament.
