Two Arrested in Gweru With 480 Bottles of Unregistered Benylin Cough Syrup

Police in Gweru have arrested two people found in possession of 480 bottles of unregistered Benylin Cough Syrup at a roadblock on Thursday.

In a statement, police said Sehlule Ndou, 46, and Eunice Mhaka, 42, were intercepted on 24/07/2026 at Flamingo Tollgate along the Gweru–Shurugwi Road.

The suspects were travelling in a Ford Ranger Wildtrak with registration number AGV 1271 when officers acted on received information.

Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered 480 bottles of 100ml Benylin Cough Syrup that were not registered.

Both suspects have been charged with unlawful possession of unregistered medicines and are expected to appear in court.

Police have urged the public to desist from dealing in unregistered medicines, warning that such products pose serious health risks and are illegal to sell or possess.

Investigations are ongoing.
