MUTARE — Police have arrested a 29-year-old Mutare man after a video circulating on social media showed him assaulting a police officer at a service station.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed that Brendon Tsakatsa of 1285 Chikanga 1, Mutare was arrested for assaulting Constable Maxwell Mukumbuzi at a service station in Mutare on 29 June 2026.
The incident, captured on video and shared widely online, prompted the ZRP to issue a strong warning against attacks on law enforcement officers.
“The ZRP strongly warns kombi and pirate taxi operators, as well as all members of the public, against assaulting, resisting or obstructing police officers in the lawful execution of their duties,” police said in a statement.
The ZRP said such conduct constitutes a criminal offence and offenders “will be arrested and brought before the courts without fear or favour.”
Police are urging members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement officers. Those with grievances about police conduct have been advised to use established channels for redress instead of resorting to violence.
“Where you have grievances regarding police conduct, seek redress through established channels rather than resorting to violence or taking the law into your own hands,” the statement added.
Tsakatsa is expected to appear in court soon.
