DOMBOSHAVA — Barely two years after opening its doors, Makumbe Hilltop College in Domboshava is positioning itself as one of the most modern boarding schools in the region, with strong academic results and facilities built to current standards.

The college was established in 2024 by Founder Bernard Fungai Mutizwa and his Co-director Mrs Eva Mutizwa. It runs all secondary school programs and maintains a class ratio of 1 teacher to 25 students. Mr. Mutizwa said the focus on small classes has contributed to a 100 percent pass rate in recent assessments.

School management is boosted by the vast experience of Mrs Eva Mutizwa. “Mrs Mutizwa brings years of insight into teaching and student welfare, and together we ensure standards remain high across academics and care,” Mr. Mutizwa said.

Infrastructure is a key selling point. The college has a well equipped Science Laboratory that supports practical lessons in physics, chemistry, and biology. Internet access is provided through both Starlink and Mutande, giving students and staff reliable connectivity for research and digital learning.

Electricity comes from a solar panel system, backed to ensure consistent power for classrooms, dormitories, and labs. Water supply is adequate across campus. Dormitories are designed to modern standards, with attention to ventilation, space, and safety.

Student safety is central to daily operations. Security personnel are on duty around the clock for boarders. A full time matron attends to injuries and illness, and when health issues are complicated the college refers students or staff to Makumbe Hospital for further management.

Extra curricular activities are taken seriously under the Heritage Based Curriculum. Learners participate in sport, culture, debate, and clubs that build skills beyond the classroom. The college is also a member of NASH and CASA, allowing students to compete at national level in academics and sport.

“The goal is to give students both strong academics and a safe, well rounded environment,” Mr. Mutizwa said. “With solar power, modern labs, reliable internet, and dedicated staff, we are building a school that meets today’s needs and prepares learners for tomorrow.”
