Harare — Seed Co, in partnership with the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, hosted a Media Braai Meet-Up at the Botanical Gardens on Thursday, 30 April 2026, to celebrate the role of journalists in advancing agriculture and food security.

The event drew multiple members of the media from different media houses across print, broadcast, and online platforms, who joined agricultural stakeholders for an informal afternoon engagement.

Held under the theme “Appreciating the role of MEDIA in Agriculture” the braai was backed by the “Food Security Everywhere Everyday” initiative and Seed Co’s banner, “The Home of Bumper Harvests – It starts with the right seed.”

Addressing attendees, the Director in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Director Barbra Machekano, said the media is central to Zimbabwe’s agricultural turnaround.

“Every time you publish a story on new seed varieties, irrigation schemes, or market prices, you are helping a farmer make a better decision,” . Machekano said. “Today we simply wanted to say thank you. The media has walked with us through drought and recovery, through policy shifts and bumper harvests. You amplify the voice of agriculture.”

She added that Government values partnerships that put farmers first. “Food security is not a slogan. It is a daily task. And we cannot achieve it without journalists who understand the land and tell its story accurately,” she said.

Representatives from Seed Co said the meet-up was meant to build stronger working relationships with the press ahead of the 2026/2027 season.

“We rely on the media to carry information on climate-smart seeds and good agronomic practices to every ward,” a Seed Co official said. “This braai is our way of appreciating that bridge.”

Journalists in attendance commended the initiative, saying direct engagement with seed houses and policymakers improves the quality of agricultural reporting.
