Harare concert on 3 July to use music as a weapon in the fight for a drug-free Zimbabwe
Ancient Tribes to Stage Anti-Drug Concert at Jameson Hotel

Afro Jazz group Ancient Tribes will headline a “Concert for a Cause” on Friday, 3 July 2026 at Cresta Jameson Hotel, Harare, from 7 PM CAT, to raise awareness on drug and substance abuse.
Lead vocalist Maizon Tazvitya, also known as Maizon of the Ancient Tribe, says Afro Jazz allows him to “blend Zimbabwe’s rich heritage with soulful sounds that speak to the heart.” Trained at Chipawo and later with the Pakare Paye Arts Ensemble, he worked alongside the late Sam and Dr. Oliver Mtukudzi, whom he cites as his biggest influence.

Tazvitya, a social scientist with a BSc Honours in Development Studies, leads the 8-piece band of 3 women and 4 men. Several members are academics who use music to address youth empowerment, nation building, and addiction. Their radio single “Majurumbwe” tackles community issues.
“Music fights drug abuse by creating awareness, offering healing, and giving youth an alternative voice,” Tazvitya said.
Themed “Amplifying the Voices Against Addiction”, the show will feature Afrocentric rhythms and supports Vision 2030. “This is more than a concert… it’s a movement to build a drug-free, healthier Zimbabwe,” the band said.
