Palestine Condemns Israeli Measures, Calls for International Accountability

HARARE – Palestine has condemned Israel’s recent actions in Hebron, accusing it of violating international law and undermining the status of the UNESCO World Heritage site.

In a statement released in Harare, the Palestinian Ambassador Tamer Almassri rejected any attempts to alter the legal and historical status of Hebron, home to the Ibrahimi Mosque. The Ambassador described the move as a direct attack on Palestinian rights and on internationally protected heritage.

“This is not just about Hebron. It is about the systematic erosion of Palestinian sovereignty and the disregard for international law,” the statement said. The Ambassador called on the international community, including the United Nations and UNESCO, to take immediate steps to protect the city and hold Israel accountable for actions that contravene multiple UN resolutions.

Hebron, located in the occupied West Bank, has been a flashpoint for decades due to Israeli settlements and restrictions on Palestinian movement in the Old City. The latest measures have drawn criticism from human rights groups and regional leaders who warn that unilateral changes risk further destabilising the area.

Palestine reiterated its commitment to a two-state solution based on 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and urged global actors to move beyond statements to concrete action.

The condemnation comes amid renewed tensions across the West Bank and ongoing diplomatic efforts to revive peace talks.
