Highlanders Hold Manica Diamonds at Sakubva Despite Free Entry Push

MUTARE — Highlanders held Manica Diamonds to a 0-0 draw at Sakubva Stadium on Sunday, denying them victory on a day Manicaland fans enjoyed free entry into the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match.

Manica Diamonds dominated possession and created several first-half chances but could not convert, extending their winless run. Highlanders absorbed early pressure and grew into the game to secure a point away from home.

The match came under new management for Manica Diamonds, with businessman Evance Kamombo recently taking over the club. Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri also paid gate entry for the first 1000 supporters who entered before 12:00 pm, a gesture aimed at boosting attendance.

Despite the incentives, Highlanders supporters made the long trip from Bulawayo and made their presence felt in the stands. Many hailed Highlanders coach Benjani Mwaruwaru for the team’s resilience.

“We came all the way from Bulawayo to support Bosso. Even with their new owners and free tickets, Highlanders still held them at home,” said Ndabezinhle Dlodlo, a Highlanders supporter. “i Bosso yi Bosso,” he added, using the club’s well-known slogan.
