MARONDERA – Marondera Central MP Hon. Caston Matewu has distanced himself from a Presidential borehole drilling scheme flier circulating on social media about his constituency, saying he was surprised to see his image used alongside President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa and Special Presidential Advisor Dr Paul Tempter Tungwarara.
The flier advertises an event scheduled for 13 May 2026 in Marondera under the Presidential borehole drilling program. It features Matewu’s picture alongside Mnangagwa and Tungwarara, and references CAB3.
Matewu said he was not consulted and is not part of the ZANU PF-led initiative.
“I was surprised to see that flier,” Matewu said. “I am not part of ZANU PF programs. I have already warned those who produced the fliers to remove my picture from there.”
The CCC legislator said he would not be in the constituency on the day of the event due to other commitments.
“On the said date I shall not be available in the constituency for other commitments,” he said.
While Matewu said he acknowledges the President’s borehole drilling scheme, he stressed he is not part of the program. He pointed to his own record, saying he had already drilled 14 boreholes for his community in Marondera Central.
He also questioned why his image was used, adding that he has no affiliation with CAB3, which is listed on the circulating fliers.
“I asked why the producers of the fliers put my face there. I am not part of CAB3,” Matewu said.
CAB3 refers to Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3, which seeks to extend the President’s term of office to 2030.
The Presidential borehole drilling scheme has been rolled out in several constituencies as part of government’s rural water and food security drive, with Dr Tungwarara involved in implementation.
The scheme has drawn mixed political responses. Recently, Mufakose MP Hon Susan Matsunga attended a similar Presidential borehole drilling event in her constituency. Matsunga sang and praised President Mnangagwa for the program, saying it was helping Zimbabweans.
Following her participation, businessman Wicknel Chivhayo awarded Matsunga a brand new 2026 Toyota Fortuner and $10,000 cash for supporting the President’s borehole drilling scheme initiated by Dr Tungwarara.
Matewu’s statement makes clear he views the use of his image on the flier as unauthorized and wants to separate his community water projects from the ruling party’s program.
