Mashanshan wins Heroes soccer tourney

Mashanshan social soccer club emerged winners in an inaugural Heroes social soccer tournament held at Glen- Norah Stadium over the Heroes and Defence Forces holidays.
Non -stop 2 day football fiesta with 7 teams , 6 from Highfield and one from Glen- Norah played heartless for the trophy.
Former PSL player at the now-defunct Mwana Africa, Bernard Chipuriro turned up for his hood team Mashanshan .
The winners defeated Towerlight FC 2-0 in a thrilling semi- final match. They met Empire FC in the final.The latter had progressed to the final after edging Captain Francis 2-1 in the semi-final.
The matches were played 20 minutes each half.
Mashanshan drew 1 all against Empire in the regulation time of the final match the before sealing their victory through penalties.
Mashanshan goal keeper saved the last penalty for them to win 5-4 on penalties.
The trophy is Mashanshan’s 3rd trophy this season in their cabinet in a roll.Tanatswa Mushoriwa powered Mashanshan to victory through his outstanding performance.He is a form four pupil at St John’s Chikwakwa High School in Murehwa and is on holiday.
Mashanshan is a community social soccer club that financially relies on its members and every senior player is a coach including this writer.
Organiser of the tournament, Francis Kaowa said the turn out was marvelous.”We are working on setting up a social league for the teams that participated in the league”, he said.
He added that the prizes had been sponsored by Delta Beverages.
Social soccer is vital in communities as it brings unity among people instead of people engaging in violent activities or taking drugs during their leisure time.

Mashanshan coach, Dereck Bingadadi was in jovial mood after winning their 3rd consecutive trophy this season.”Our team is playing well but lack of sponsoring is hindering us from maximising our efforts”, he said.
Mashanshan chairperson Tinarwo Nhundu, said they needed sponsorship in form of money or in kind.
Top goal scorer and goalkeeper of the tournament were both from Empire and were Norman Simbanegavi and Simbarashe Gauti respectively.
