Zealous Tigers with the ball

Prince Edward Tigers trounced Churchill Bulldogs 24-8 in a   derby match  at  the just ended 2017 Dairibord Schools Rugby Festival on Day 7, the last day of the event.

Prince Edward was on fire from the start of the game as the Bulldogs were not given space to breathe. The Tigers took advantage of Bulldogs’ defensive right flank which was porous as they went on half time leading 24-0.Tigers got their first two  tries from Zvikomborero Chimoto and Marlvin Nyakuedzwa whilst Tigers’ Tinashe Hombiro was voted man of the match.

The 1st half produced  amazing tactics from  the Tigers a they played their heart out outclassing the defending champions Bulldogs.Prince Edward defended well,  taking immaculate tackles that left Churchill forwards unable to penetrate.Tigers made good dummies in the middle of the park that lead the game to be lively like those  watched on television.

Tigers had a certain way to shield the ball whilst running upfront to make tries and it paid heavily. The game showed the derby aspect as tempers flared among the players as no one wanted to loose the match. All the teams wanted to be the big team in Harare as schools rugby is concerned.

Churchill had a come back in the 2nd half but unfortunately the damage was already done.Players from Churchill got injured as they tried to fight back and their coach kept on making substitutes but to no avail. A penalty and try was all Churchill could manage in a highly tense derby match that left fans clamoring for more.

Prince Edward coach Shaun DeSouza  was in cloud nine after the match.”It humbles us to have won with such a big score The first half we were clinical but even though, we made mistakes and we look forward to work out on our mistakes.

Churchill coach  Jeff  blamed the defense for not doing a good job”Tigers had a good day whilst we had a bad day in office  and these things happen. We will meet up them in the season  am sure we will have gone back to the drawing board and fix up whatever problem we have”, said the coach
