The Social Democrats Association (SODA), a youth civic movement advocating for the inclusion and recognition of young people in decision-making institutions, has taken a significant step towards promoting cultural understanding and cooperation between Zimbabwe and Iran.
Representatives from SODA recently met with officials from the Iranian Embassy in Zimbabwe, discussing potential exchange programs and initiatives aimed at strengthening ties between the two nations.
“SODA is committed to promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions, as outlined in Sustainable Development Goal 16,” said Tauya Chinama, national team leader of SODA. “Our meeting with the Iranian Embassy was a crucial step towards achieving this goal, and we look forward to seeing the fruits of our collaboration.”
The meeting also provided an opportunity for SODA to encourage interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence, highlighting the importance of unity and cooperation in achieving common goals. Chinama emphasized the importance of interfaith dialogue, referencing Prophet Muhammad’s teachings on pluralism and coexistence.
As a philosopher and human rights activist, Chinama’s engagement with the Iranian Embassy is consistent with his work with Humanists Zimbabwe and his advocacy for human rights, social justice, and youth inclusion in decision-making processes. His support for Palestine and global human rights issues underscores his commitment to justice and equality.
“We are excited about the prospect of cultural exchange programs with Iran,” said Chinama. “This initiative will not only promote cross-cultural understanding but also provide young Zimbabweans with valuable opportunities for growth and development.”
SODA’s efforts are part of a broader commitment to promoting youth inclusion and civic engagement in Zimbabwe, and its collaboration with the Iranian Embassy is a testament to the power of partnership and cooperation in achieving shared goals.
