ZRP Responds to Public Concerns Over Roadblocks, Warns Against Undisciplined Conduct

Harare –The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has moved to clarify concerns raised by the public regarding the frequency and location of police roadblocks across the country, assuring citizens that all operations follow strict protocols.

In a press statement dated 23 October 2025, ZRP reiterated that all roadblock deployments are formally scheduled and approved by the Police General Headquarters’ Operations Department. These deployments are submitted by station, district, and provincial commanders for clearance.

“The policy of the Zimbabwe Republic Police is that no roadblocks are manned within a 30 to 50-kilometre radius of each policing area,”the statement reads. This policy applies in both urban and rural setups, with supervisory oversight aimed at preventing indiscipline or corruption.

ZRP acknowledged that roadblocks may increase temporarily during public order situations, national events, or special operations involving criminal investigations. However, the force stressed that operations must return to normal after the incident is addressed.

Citizens have been encouraged to report unusual or suspicious roadblock deployments directly to the Commissioner-General of Police or provincial commanders. Disciplinary action will be taken against any officer who conducts roadblocks outside established procedures.

Members of the public can raise complaints or concerns through the National Complaints Desk by calling 0242 703631 or sending a WhatsApp message to 0712 800 197.
