Minister of Information Jenfan Muswere

The 32nd post-cabinet media briefing highlighted several key initiatives aimed at boosting the country’s economy and infrastructure. According to the briefing, the government has made significant progress in various sectors, including agriculture, industry, and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs).

Agricultural Progress

The briefing noted that Zimbabwe has adequate grain at the national level, despite localized shortages. The winter wheat harvesting season is underway, with 57.6% complete, yielding 385,267 tonnes. Additionally, the barley harvest has yielded 27,796 tonnes.

Industrial Development

The government is working on drafting the Zimbabwe National Industrial Development Policy 2 (2026-2030), which aims to address challenges in manufacturing and commerce, reduce imports, enhance local production, and unlock export potential. The policy is being aligned with the National Development Strategy 2.

SME Development

The cabinet approved amendments to the Small and Medium Enterprises Bill, which aims to enhance MSME formalization, bolster their economic participation, and contribute to employment, industrialization, export growth, and Vision 2030 attainment. The commerce sector contributes up to 60% of the country’s GDP.

Veld Fire Management

The briefing also highlighted the need for veld fire management, with 211 fires burning 76,940.61 hectares of veld, resulting in three deaths and over $1.45 million in property damage. The government has held 177 fire awareness meetings, reaching 30,688 people, and is advising farmers to have fire suppression measures in place.

Industrialization Agenda

The Zimbabwe Industrial Reconstruction and Growth Plan (2024-2025) is a transitional framework between the expired and upcoming Zimbabwe National Industrial Development Policy 2. The plan aims to address challenges in manufacturing and commerce, reduce imports, enhance local production, and unlock export potential.

These initiatives demonstrate the government’s commitment to driving economic growth and development in Zimbabwe.
