By Tendai Chisiri

Harare, Zimbabwe – The Organic Farming Academy (OFA) is set to host Organic Day Zimbabwe on September 12, 2025, in celebration of the international EU Organic Day.

The event aims to promote organic farming, sustainability, and ecological awareness in the country.

According to Fiona Tinarwo, Coordinator at OFA, “This year’s event is a landmark gathering for all stakeholders in the organic value chain. We will spotlight innovative organic farming practices, strengthen market linkages for smallholder farmers, and unite decision-makers to move forward the organic mission in Zimbabwe.”

The event is organized in partnership with Organic Africa and SNV, and will bring together farmers, youth, policymakers, development partners, and private sector leaders.

Zimbabwe has seen significant growth in organic farming, with the number of organically certified producers increasing from 7,883 in 2021 to 25,339 in 2025. However, the country still lags behind globally, with only 3.4 million ha of organic farmland in Africa.

The OFA is calling on the public to support local organic farmers by choosing sustainably grown food, stakeholders to strengthen fair market access, and policymakers to accelerate policy reforms and incentives that protect biodiversity and empower rural communities.

Key Highlights:

  • Organic farming is growing rapidly worldwide, with 98.9 million ha of organic farmland globally in 2023.
  • The global organic market value reached 136.4 billion € in 2023.
  • Zimbabwe has the potential to expand organic production, create sustainable jobs, and access premium global markets with stronger policy support and investment.
