Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Jenfan Muswere led a delegation of journalists on a tour of the Dinson Iron and Steel Company in Manhize with the aim to showcase the company’s operations and its significant role in Zimbabwe’s industrial development last week Friday
The company is currently producing 600,000 metric tonnes of carbon steel annually, primarily in the form of steel billets and deformed bars.The plant employs over 2,000 local workers, contributing significantly to job creation and skills development in the region.
” Our mandate is to inform and educate the nation about what is taking place and also to have a monitoring and evaluation mechanism and through an assessment in terms of what the President commissioned in 2022 inline with the Zimbabwe Is Open For Business ” Minister Muswere said
Intergrated steel works which includes mining operations that is taking place in Dinson Iron and steel Company is one of the few companies with intergrated and unique steel architecture within the geography in Zimbabwe. “We are cutting down in terms of import bill which used to be more than a billion dollar per annum in terms of steel products into the country , blast furnace and a power generation unit producing 50 megawatts is done in Dinson Iron and steel Company and this has reduced import bill ” added Minister Muswere.
” We exports our products to regional and international markets, including South Africa, Tanzania, Botswana, Mozambique, and beyond. We also have been granted Special Economic Zone ( SEZ ) status, which is expected to accelerate investment inflows, industrialization, and job creation ” said Mr Wilfred Motsi , Projects Director Dinson Iron and steel Company.
The steel plant is driving economic growth in the surrounding areas, with increased business activity and investment in Chivhu. The town of Chivhu is experiencing rapid transformation, with new retail complexes, housing schemes, medical centers, and service stations under development.
Dinson Iron and steel Company project currently has employed 2000 skilled and non skilled with locals getting first preference. The company is expected to create up to 25,000 direct jobs and 150,000 indirect jobs at full capacity .
