The nation is mourning the loss of two distinguished patriots, Cde Victor Tapiwa Chashe Rungani and Cde Walter Basopo, who have been conferred with national hero status by His Excellency, President, Dr ED Mnangagwa.
Ahead of their double burial at the National Heroes Acre on Wednesday, 30 April 2025, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage outlines the body movements and ceremony details for the two national heroes.”
His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe will preside over this burial.
“Pursuant to the above, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage would like to inform members of the media fraternity, Chinhoyi Community, Mashonaland West leadership, the Gutu Community and the entire nation on the aforementioned as follows;”, said the ministry in a press release.

At 1400hrs departure from Charles Gumbo Barracks to his Goromonzi home where it will lie in state.
Tuesday 29 April 2025
From 0900hrs the body will be airlifted to Bikita where the Masvingo Leadership and Bikita community will be able to pay their last respects.
Expected time of arrival is 1100hrs.At 1400hrs, the body will then be flown back to Harare where it will lie in state ahead of burial on Wednesday.
Cde Walter Basopo’s Body Movement
The body of the late National hero was airlifted to Gutu yesterday where it lay in state at his homestead.
From 1100hrs today, the body will be airlifted to Chinhoyi where it will lie in state at 6824 in Muzari. On Tuesday, from 0900hrs the body will be flown back to Harare where it will again lie in state at Charles Gumbo Barracks ahead of burial on Wednesday.
“Burial proceedings for the two national heroes will commence at the national shrine on Wednesday and mourners will be picked at the usual pick up points. Zimbabweans are urged to come in their numbers to give befitting send -off to these two gallant Sons of the Soil”, the ministry added.
