The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will commission the Hakwata Community Renewable Energy Project in Chipinge district in Manicaland Province of Zimbabwe Thursday 3 October 2024.
According to communication sent on behalf of the UNDP resident representative,Dr Ayodele Odusola, the project commissioning will be officiated by Zimbabwe’s President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa.
UNDP says that Hakwata Community Renewable Energy Project was made possible through the partnership between the government of Zimbabwe, government of the United Kingdom and the people of Hakwata community.
The project has been implemented under UNDP’s Climate Adaptation Water and Energy Infrastructure Programme (CAWEP). The CAWEP project is a three year initiative which aims to support the government of Zimbabwe to attain it’s climate change goals. According to the UNDP, the project will support vulnerable communities and resilience capacity to climate change shocks in Chipinge,Insiza,Chivi and Binga districts of Zimbabwe.
