Zebra vs Warriors Friendly Cancelled Whilst PSL had Postponed Match-Day Seven Fixtures

It seems like a debacle in the local football fraternity as Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League (PSL) has postponed weekend league games to pave way for the national team friendly against Botswana which fails to materialize because of communication breakdown.

In a memorandum to all PSL clubs, PSL chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele advises on the postponement of Castle Lager PSL Match-Day Twenty-Seven fixtures.

“This serves to advise that the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Match-Day 27 fixtures schedules for 14 to 15 October 2023 have been postponed”.

“This is to pave way for the international friendly between Zimbabwe and Botswana which will be played on Saturday 14 October 223. The postponed fixtures shall be played on 18-19 October 2023” Ndebele said.

However, Botswana Football Association distanced itself from the international friendly match between the Zebras and the Warriors which had been confirmed on the official page of Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Wednesday morning.

According the the ZIFA statement, the Warriors were host the Zebras at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday of which the match has now been cancelled.

According to impeachable sources, BFA executive officer Mfolo Mfolo said, ” we have not agreed to any international match with ZIFA”. BFA is sai d to be hosting Eswantini in a friendly match on Monday 16 October at Lobatse Sports Complex.

Meanwhile ZIFA upon noticing that there had been some communication breakdown called the friendly off. In a statement ZIFA said, ” The association sincerely regrets all inconveniences that this unfortunate development has caused to all stakeholders”, ZIFA said.

The training for the Warriors will still go ahead until the end of the international break. This will give the technical team more time to asses their options ahead of the crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Nigeria in November.
