Opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader, Douglas Mwonzora said he is not quitting politics even if he is boycotting 2023 Harmonized Elections as the party’s Presidential candidate but will hold a peaceful demonstration set for 18th of August to portray dissatisfaction.

Douglas Mwonzora mentioned an array of undemocratic tendencies being exhibited by Zimbabwe Election Compassion(Zec) thereby prompting him the pull out of the race and watch on the sidelines.

He said he will be supporting the MDC parliamentary and council candidates as he cannot support the ruling party the ruling party which he labelled despotic.

“Zanu Pf knows they are able field polling agents because they have the money to pay them. They refused us MDC and CCC to be given money by European Union from r poling agents”.

” European Union had disburses $3million euro to be shared between Zanu Pf, MDC and CCC through Zimbabwe Institute but they ordered the money to be returned”, he revealed at a press conference held by Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zimbabwe.

He said Zec is aware of this and did nothing about it and there is nowhere he would compete without having polling agents who are paid as a respectable person.

He also said he cannot participate in an election which is dirty, determined by Zec and is gross injustice.

He castigated Zec for printing the ballot papers before Saviour Kasukuwere’s case was heard as this tantamounts to undemocracy.

“I have decided to boycott this election because what am seeing is a rotten system”, he elaborated.

He says MDC will hold a peaceful demonstration for disenfranchisement and to make a statement about constitutionalism in Zimbabwe.
