As the adage goes “Charity begins at home”, NetOne saw it fit to clean the surrounding area of NetOne Building Kopje in Harare as they carried out a national clean-up campaign Friday.
NetOne, Zimbabwe’s leading digital solutions mobile network operator’s employees voluntarily chose to leave their cosy offices and brave the chilly weather with brooms and bin liners to clean the surrounding area of NetOne Building Kopje in dust coats and gloves.
About thirty NetOne employees participated in the initiative of having a safe and clean environment joined by Environmental Management Agency (EMA) represantatives, Harare City Council represantatives and media partners which lasted for two hours.
Speaking on the sidelines of the national clean-up campaign, NetOne general manager Learnmore Musunda said the clean-up campaign is done nationwide on the first Friday of the month.
“The national clean-up campaign involves all our NetOne offices and also everywhere where we operate. Right no as I speak, all our offices in Masvingo, Bulawayo, Beitbridge, Gweru, Kwekwe and others are actually participating in this initiative” he said.
“This intiative is actually supporting government’s drive towards cleaning our local environment. So we are actually supporting government as you are aware that every first Friday of each month, government gave instruction for citizens to clean up where they live and work, so this is what we are doing” Musunda stressed.
“As we are actually supporting government’s initiative, this is happening across Zimbabwe. We partner EMA and local authorities, not only local authorities in cities and towns but we are also actually working with growth points and rural local boards. Last time we were in Zaka with their Member of Parliament cleaning the local township”, he revealed.
“It is not in major cities only but we are doing it anywhere because NetOne operates anywhere in the country. We team up all our partners but usually we work with local authorities and EMA”, he said.
He revealed that they are also working with EMA in order to avoid land degradation.
” As you are aware that we have base stations countrywide we are embarking on projects to conserve the environment in terms of land degradation. Also we want to use solar energy on our base stations as to safe guard the environment”, he added.
Several managers at NetOne joined the clean-up campaign including Head marketing and public relations Roselyn Chisveto and public relations officer Chipo Muziri.
