Sheasham FC did not turn up for their match against Caps Utd at Mandava on Sunday expressing frustration over the decision by PSL of reversing the approval of their home ground with soccer greats putting the blame on PSL.
Sheasham home ground Bata in Gweru had the approval to host matches reversed by PSL with Zifa supporting the reversal decision. This irked the team and did not fulfill their home fixture pencilled for Mandava in Zvishavane.
Former Zimbabwe international and Caps Utd player, Cephas Chimedza now based in Belgium came out guns blazing attacking PSL for being too demanding. Thomas “Pablo” Mapako had posted in a facebook group applauding PSL for refuting the Construction Boys to use their home ground, Bata.
“Zim PSL should be made up of 12 or 14 serious and professional soccer teams. No team should allowed to play in PSL without proper football structures, sponsorship and CAF approved home ground”, posted Mapako.
Cephas Chimedza disagreed with Mapako saying PSL and Zifa as the custodians of local football must not be like Caf or Fifa in their approach to such issues.
“If we say no team is allowed to play without those structures we will then have only the 2 platinum teams playing”.
“It’s good to set some standards but they have to be within our reach those in Zim not to compare them to other countries. Its unfortunate we are really behind in terms of football development and we can’t ignore the impact of the economy”, replied Chimedza to Mapako’s post.
Owen Murombedzi concurred with Cephas Chimedza “as a country we are failing to meet caf standards ;then the very same people want to effect *Standards*.kkkkk lead by example”, he wrote.
Danai Chitakasha a seasoned football fan and admin of the facebook group thought it was not justice to commend PSL’s move. “I think this has nothing to do with the argument which you have advanced Director ( it has its merits and demerits ). This is about making a stand and Sheasham has simply taken a stand”.
“Let’s see how the ZPSL proceeds.I hope it will not be a punishment and a move by punishing Sheashame further”, posted Chitakasha.
Bata Stadium was approved only the decision to be reversed after an outcry by a section fans on social media when pictures showing unfinished parts outside the field of play were circulated.
They had hosted Highlanders FC prior to this and PSL succumbed to the local football crybabies.
