Experts have noticed that drivers who leave their cars at car wash whether it is the person in the neighborhood or an organised car wash without securing their fuel tank are at the risk of having their fuel siphoned.
Most drivers leave their cars at car wash unattended or ask for someone to wash their cars in the neighborhood whilst they are not available, so it is pivotal that they have the fuel tank cap locked. Car wash attendants have the tendency to siphon fuel as much as 5 litres if they find out that the fuel tank cap is not locked.
“Most of the drivers no longer check if the fuel tank is locked. This makes them vulnerable at car wash as they would leave their car to be washed for some hours thus making it easy for the car wash attendant to siphon fuel”, an expert noted.
Apart from removing valuable documents when taking a car for car wash, drivers should also check if the fuel tank is secured in order to avoid fuel loses. Locking the tank after a refill is advised to avoid the loss.
The amount of the fuel depends on how many litres are in the tank. If the tank is full, the probability of the fuel being siphoned to be more than 5 litres is high.
