WFF Zim unveils Midlands Championships

World Fitness Federation (WFF) Zimbabwe president Godwin Simbarashe Mhaka says his is aiming to grow the bodybuilding and fitness sport in his home town of Kwekwe as he is also a WFF committee member for developing the sport in Africa.

Speaking at the launch of the WFF Zimbabwe Midlands Championships, the president said he is looking forward to have athletes competing at regional and international level coming from the mining- town of Kwekwe.

” As someone who grew up in Kwekwe, I see the need to develop the sport in my hometown first before I commit myself to other countries”, said Mhaka.

The competition is first of its kind to be hosted in Kwekwe. The federation is new in Zimbabwe having been formed in 2021 but didn’t manage to have much competitions due to Covid-19 pandemic. The World Fitness Federation or WFF, is an international bodybuilding organization formed in 1968 in Germany. The WFF promotes classic or athletic bodybuilding with a focus on the aesthetic quality of the physique as opposed to just muscularity.Graeme Lancefield is the president as from 2012. He took over from the founder and then president Klaus Hoffmann. The headquarters are now in Australia.

Midlands Championships is a preliminary show slated for the 13th of May at Kwekwe Queens Sports Club.The main show Kings and Queens Grand Prix will be held in Harare at Zimbabwe College of Music on 1 July whereby winners will be qualified to enter the Asia Pacific Contest in Japan on 16 September. and the All Africa competitions in December.

Athletes will battle it out in five categories, Senior men bodybuilding from the age of 24 and above, Junior men bodybuilding up to 23 years, Sports model for men and women, Bermuda and beach model and Bikini fitness for women. Everyone who register will get a T-shirt whilst top six positioned 4, 5 and 6 will get medals and certificates of attendance with top 3 getting prize money and supplements hampers in addition.

Godwin Simbarashe Mhaka urged athletes to feel free by joining federations of their choice.”Ours is affiliated to WFF and we are much interested in competing on the international scene. We have our own constitution in Zimbabwe but we are guided by WFF”.

“No one has the right to restrict someone from being in any federation at a time he/she wishes as an amateur unless one turns professional”, said Mhaka during the launch.

WFF Zimbabwe is also having grassroots seminars on diet out supplements, competition preparation and posing clinics. The seminars started in March and are being held in different parts of the country. Also on the launch, the seminar was held.

The main sponsor is Gold Metal Investments (Private) Limited. Strength Wars will be the curtain raiser starting at 8am to 10 am. Musabvunda is sponsoring the category. Overall winner will be chosen from the squats, dead lift and chest categories. JL Fitness, Transform Nutrition by Cathy, Muscle Labs, Supplement Factory and Kuvima Aggregates are some of the sponsors at the championships.
