Women Writers Support Network (WWSN)-Africa in cooperation with the Embassy of the State of Palestine commemorated the International Day of Solidarity and launched a book by women writers depicting their solidarity.

Zimbabwe female journalist Catherine Murombedzi recited a heart wrenching poem about the slain Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh who was killed in May this year and with the Israel soldiers saying probably they killed her.

Catherine Murombedzi was among the 50 writers who won the International Solidarity Writing Competition by the State of Palestine- Zimbabwe chapter organised by WWSN and the Embassy of the State of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

Catherine Murombedzi said ” On 2 November, the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, UNESCO called for all necessary measures to ensure that crimes committed against journalists are properly investigated”.
“Shireen’s death was not in vain, as media we call for those who eliminated her to apologise”, she said.

As late Shireen Abu Akhel’s death had no one one to take the blame as Israel said they may probably have killed her, Murombedzi throughout the poem is at pains to paint and portray that probably should not be answer but for everyone to know what fully transpired.

The book launched “Cry for hope and freedom”, written by women writers is in solidarity with the Palestinian people. It is a collection of stories, illustrations, paintings and poems with Palestine theme.

By Catherine Murombedzi

I probably, should be shouting from mountain tops

I probably, should be silent because occupation masters “rule”

Probably, Yes, No, Probably

I may,  probably, maybe mistaken too,

Fear, more fear to silence wannabes

I for one, will write,
Probably, they killed her
Because they Probably, feared her more than a battalion

Probably, the sniper didn’t see her Press vest?

Probably, she wasn’t standing amongst other journalists?

Probably, in Jenin, she became a terrorist?

Probably, that moment enemy fire mistook her?

Probably, it was a lost shrapnel not fired at her?
To Probably, be afraid, very afraid and dare not again?

I am a woman
I am a mother
I feel the loss of Shireen in my womb
Shireen is not history
She is the sunrise to awareness
It is time to have a movement to have Palestine free
I for one will definitely write

If they can silence Your Main Voice, then Probably, you too, should all cower into your shells

And Probably, the 4 May, 2022 Wednesday shocker was planned

Probably Yes, Probably, No

An indelibly mark, Voice of the Voiceless speaks from yonder

Gone too soon
RIP Shireen
