It was all systems out at Jubilee Hall in Milton Park on Saturday as body building and fitness athletes showcased with Edward Mutero “Gearbox” winning the title after shrugging stiff competition from Noah Dzvokora and Gideon Teguru.

Scintillating perfomance was exhibited in the Harare Classic 2022 Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships and the spectators were not shortchanged their money. The athletes were well prepared for the show and they gave each other a run for the money.

Edward Mutero won in the senior men category and pocketed US$1 500, Blessing Itai Sithole came first in the men physique section, Nomathamsanga Phiri won the women bikini category and Paul Bako was the winnner in the junior men body building section.

The surprise came in the women bikini category as four time winner Lynett Tom was outwitted by her protege Nomathamsanga Phiri.

“Experience counts. The boys had big bodies that one would think they are the winners but anyway I used secret weapons to outwit them as that is what I do when it comes to difficult times”, Mutero said.

” I took my time to prepare for the show so always when you prepare for the show, you go harder and harder”, he added. He didn’t sweat much like other athletes which made him the winner as his points became many than other athletes.” The diet counts, the more you diet the drier you become. So I was better than everyone as I didn’t sweat”, he said.

” I am not gonna take a break as the Mr Zimbabwe contest is around the corner. I gonna take three days off to recover my body by eating every junk food that I can get infront of me and from there am going forward”, he revealed.

Blessing Itai Sithole said it was easy to win the men physique.” The results were obvious as I had earlier on told the media that I am going to win. All I know is winning. You can ask Jose who knows second place. Me don’t know second place.

Jose Dos Santos Luwuembo won bronze in the category replied “That was a good speech amd all I have to say is I don’t miss three times. I miss the first, I miss the second and I will meet him at the third round at Mr Zimbabwe contest”.

Blessing Sithole then said as the interview became like a challenge to them, ” I don’t understand these kids these days. They are on drugs . I think it has messed his brain. I don’t know with his dreams and I am the dream killer and I kill dreams”, Sithole added . He also revealed that during his preparation he was thinking of winning and nothing else.

Jose Luwuembo commended Sithole because of the way he competes. “He is a good athlete, he pushes us , he makes the game difficult and that’s what I like about him although even an aeroplane it flies but there is a time it lands”, Luwuembo said.

Nomathamsanga Phiri was all smiles as she won the women bikini category. “This is my first time to compete in the Harare Classic although its my fourth competition I have entered”, Phiri said.

” I learnt so much from seasoned athlete Lynett Tom and what I learnt have brought it on stage amd it was amazing to be on the stage with my mentor Lynett amd fellow gym mate at Lydon Fitness Gym in Budiriro”, she added.
Asked about how she prepared, she said, ” Honestly you never get prepared for things like this. You come to show your best. On how she was deiting, she said it is not a diet. “Diet does not exist in fitness. It is a lifestyle”, she said.

She commented on her future plans saying she is in it not for competition but as something she loves. ” Competition does not exist in my dictionary. What exists is showcasing the best one can bring. So what’s coming in the future is a lot. I am waiting doors to open”, she added.

She did Novice and won bronze, Ironman amd she took the bronze position and in Marume she took silver. “I enterd Marume contest three weeks ago a and I took silver. It was a stepping stone for me and it was very enchanting”, said Phiri.
