
Seven times Harare Classic Championship winner Patson Chatedzuka affectionately known as ” Officer” is expecting a stiff competition when Harare Clasic Championship springs into life at Jubille Hall in Milton Park Harare on Saturday.
Patson Chatedzuka is part of the brains behind Harare Classic Championship alongside Tarirai Chirume said it is not surprisng to see another emerging champion as more athletes are eying the prestigious title. He won the title seven times from 2012 to 2019. In 2020 it was won by Vincent Kandiero with the cureent holder being Gideon Teguru the 2021 champion.
Noah Dzvokora, Eliar Samaringa, Nunurai Masosonere, Edward “Gearbox” Mutero Simbarashe Nyamukondiwa the defending champion Gedion Teguru are tipped to provide a tight contest in the senior Men Open where upcoming athletes across the country and beyond the borders will also compete”, he said.
” Not forgetting the girl child in Women’s Physic, Men’s Physic athletes, Men’s Fitness athletes and Junior Men body building, it will be all systems out on Saturday” , added Chatedzuka.
The nickname Officer came because of his service with Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP). He competed in ZRP Body Building Championship and won the title seventeen times, sixteen times being consecutive. He has also competed in Mr Zimbabwe Heavyweight and won the silver medal.
“As of now I am part of the brains behind Harare Classic alongside my brother Tarirai Chirume who I have rubbed shoulders with at the stage several times, so we are giving back to the community what we have gained in the sport”, he said in an interview.
“Body building as a sport has its challenges to the athletes from preparations till the final day of the show, athletes have to pay for gym fees,hire the services of Personal Trainers and the sport attire,The food they eat is also costly as one has to be disciplined on the diet because one has to eat more proteins like eggs, breast chicken,meat,fish and considering that some of the athletes are not employed and some have families to look after, unless one has sponsorship it become challenging”, he revealed.
Chatedzuka commended body building as a sport because it builds one confidence and one might attract sponsors or have some endorsement from different companies, from clothing,food, beverages and also fitness industry.
“Body building has transformed me to who I am and chronological age I am forty-six years but functional age,and biological age, I look thirty years old and these are the benefits of the sport. Also am now a qualified and experienced fitness trainer and fitness nutrition specialist so I am mentoring the youngster,this might drive them out of this pandemic of drugs abuse which has affected a lot of youngsters”, Chatedzuka said.
He said to upcoming athletes that tue future is bright in Zimbabwe Body Building and Fitness for personal gains andone has to develop and sky is the limit before urging them to ,SAY NO TO DRUG ABUSE.
“I am looking to see a champion being crowned on Saturday 22 October”, he added.
The winner of the title walks away with US$1500.
Harare Classic Championship starts at 1000 hours to 1900 hours with the main show starting at 1600 hours to 1900 hours.
Admission fee is US$10.
