Although the attendance was low at Sungura Blast concert on Saturday night in Harare, the musicians didnot short change the audience with Macheso sending revellers into a frenzy on dance floor.
Baba Shero as Alick Macheso is known in the music circles belted out songs from his new album and even his old songs like Madhawu and Shediya were a treat to the fans. He came on stage after Mark Ngwazi and his performance made more show goers rise from their seats and started to dance on the dance floor.
Mark Ngwazi performed below what was expected by his fans. He was in discord as there was lack of harmony between notes sounding together. It looks like he is good at recording in the studio rather than performing on live shows. However his message on Nyaradzo ya Baba and Taurai Madzoka songs kept the audience captivated.

The first to be on the stage on the night was the Afro- fusion artist Audinance Kuimba who managed to lift up the spirit of the revellers. He sang Oliver Mutukudzi copyrights Mangoromera and Ndasakura ndazunza received much ovation from the small crowd. He also sang his own tracks Ziva wekuchemera, Madhlamini, Huya Utore and Muchetura we Moyo.
After him came the Kanindo songbird Shantel Sithole whose dancers were energetic and well dressed. They made the night lively for the show goers.
Madzibaba Nicholas Zacharia “Senior Lecturer”, came after Shantel Sithole and showed that he is a music guru. The Musabvunde hit maker mesmerised the crowd with his old songs like Mabvi nemagokora.
After Nicholas Zacharia came Baba Harare the jiti musician. His scintillating performance left many wanting more. His songs Guzvuzvu, Rita and Heti dzemurara got much appreciation from the crowd. As someone who sing culture genre, he shared the stage with Gule Wamkulu dancers to show his appreciation of other culture.
Baba Harare also sampled a song he collaborated with Jah Prayzah from his upcoming album “Zimbabwe Giant”. The album will be released in November.
After him came Mark Ngwazi who disappointed fans as they that thought he would outwit Alick Macheso.” I am very disappointed by Mark Ngwazi, he sings like Macheso, his beat and voice looks like Macheso’s . He should try to be creative because if one imitates someone, he/she would not be above the person”, overheard this write at the show.
Macheso showed the crowd that he is the King of Sungura when he came after Ngwazi.
Sulumani Chimbetu was the last to perform and he performed well. He sang songs of his late father Simon Chimbetu . However his fans complained that he is too pompous as he does not listen to his fans. Whilst other musicians asked the fans if they wanted some more after singing the scheduled songs, Sulu after singing his songs just went away back stage.
The tickets seemed too dear for Sungura lovers looking at the number of people who attended but those who attended were left in a happy mood.
