Glen-Norah born Afro- fusion artist Audinance Kuimba will perform at the Sungura blast concert and it is a dream come true for him.
35- year- old accountant who doubles as a musician will share the stage with renowned Sungura artistes Alick Macheso and Nicholas Zacharia.
Audinance Kuimba who at once shared stage with the late Oliver Mutukudzi at Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton said it is a dream come true come the Sungura Blast concert.
“It’s a privilege and mind blowing to think such a dream becoming true. I give credit to Gateway stream music which is a talent incubation institute for spotting me and giving me such a phenomenal opportunity”, said Kuimba in an interview.
Riding high Sungura artist Mark Ngwazi will also perform alongside Sulu Chimbetu, Baba Harare and Shantel Sithole on 24 September at Harare International Conference Centre. The show presented by Gateway stream will pull in audience as Mark Ngwazi seems to be overshadowing Alick Macheso.
Kuimba, a Bindura University graduate in Accounting and an Articles student said he is an in born musician. “I realized that I had a burning passion for music at a tender age. I participated in anything that resonated with sound from primary school like percussion, choir and traditional dance”, he said.
He was in marimba band at high school and penned his first song at the age of 15. ” I compose songs that talks about my life experiences or that of people around me. I also like social commentary in my lyrics. I do metaphoric writing and sing political songs as well”, he added.
He said his journey in music has never been so easy as there was need to focus on school as this was his first priority. Also after making serious steps in this journey he found much of his time being taken by work and family. ” At first I had financial challenges to get a recording whilst a student and now time is constrained as my work consumes almost 70% of my time”, he revealed.
He owns a state-of-the-art studio in Glen-Norah called Background Studio.
At the moment he has 4 Albums of which 2 are the ones he rates as pieces of music. “I used to sing what as termed Urban grooves then did Zimdancehall a bit before I found myself settled in Afro Jazz which I have 2 albums to my name”, he said.
He loves his songs although it happens that the fresh he records turns out to be his favorite to play on live stage, at home or practicing.” People have liked Huya Utore, track no.10 on my latest album titled Muchetura Wemoyo very much”, he revealed.
His words of encouragement to upcoming artists are “To be be a musician in Zimbabwe is not easy. If one needs to do it, it should be for a passion and not just a wish because one will be disappointed if he/she does it for money rather than purpose.
