Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), abhors government intervention in its activities however in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic, governments around the globe are tasked with humanitarian work which is FIFA ’s core value.
There had been speculations that the world football governing body will ban football in Zimbabwe after the latter’s sports commission Sports Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended Zimbabwe Football Association( ZIFA) over various alleged offences.
Our writer Tendai Chisiri predicted the impending chaos through the article “Are ZIFA and SRC having a cold war? , In the article I used online writing skill to include the way forward for FIFA to engage its activities during the Covid-19 induced lock downs worldwide.
I elaborated in the article that the turbulence to transpire in Zimbabwe football because oil and water do not mix. This means to portray that whilst governments were doing humanitarian work, there is the likelihood of them overshadowing the humanitarian organisations that already exist.
This was also noted not only in football as Russia banned the oldest human rights group in the country.
The article depicts how FIFA had to have an acquainted knowledge of which route to follow in the release of international players to their respective countries for national duty. At that time England Premier League was at loggerheads with international players from Argentina, Brazil and other parts of Africa because of the red list given to other countries during lock downs. The article mentions how governments had superseded humanitarian organizations due to Covid-19 pandemic.
FIFA is monitoring the situation in Zimbabwe as reported by the Daily news the article “FIFA breaks silence on Zim soccer chaos”.
The World Health Organization (WHO) green lighted all countries to have the world class status to all counties worldwide and this necessitated government to interfere in football maters not in Africa alone but globally.
With Zimbabwe sending its national teams to international assignments automatically lessens the squabbles.
