Sports academy eyes greener pastures for its youngsters

Global Sports Management (GSM), a sports academy nurturing talents at grass roots level is eyeing the  boys’ exposure  to Italy and Spain sports  academies where the level of  competition in sports  is higher than  in Zimbabwe.


Speaking to the writer,  GSM technical director Gilbert Zulu said the sports consultants programme was looking forward to have its players play for academies abroad in order to built better players for the country.


GSM was formed in August 2018 and  launched in 2020 and is yet to be commissioned by Ministry of Sports.
“We came with this project when we realised that there was talent laying abundantly and no one was noticing”, said Gilbert Zulu in an interview.


“The academy consists of only 2 age groups which are under 12 and Under 14.We have different sporting disciplines and these are cricket, rugby, athletics  and soccer”, he added.
“Our aim to have the boys play in Italy, Spain and Germany sports academies as we have contracts there who can help us achieve such a feat”, revealed Zulu.


He also noted that the chairman of GSM , Davaison Mark Harris at one time stayed in Zimbabwe before he went Spain.”We  approached him and he listened to  our plea to have him on board”, said Zulu.


The board of GSM comprises of 6 people who are the chairman, secretary,treasurer, 2 committee members and welfare manager.

After lockdown, they are aiming to be commissioned. Its offices are in Chisipiti and their prospective training ground is Harare International School.

So far they have the academy has 18 athletes.
