Schools not opening in 2021 as scheduled

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has shelved the opening of schools for the first term in a statement to learners, parents, guardians and other stakeholders on Wednesday.

They cited a surge in Covid-19 infections and the new and more contagious variations of the disease aa well as threat posed by Cyclone Charlene as the main reasons behind the shifting of opening of schools form 4 January to a later date .

“Government has seen it fit to deviate from the previous announced 2021 School Calendar that directed schools to open on 04 January 2021”, said the Ministry.

“In this regard, please be advised that 2020 ZIMSEC ‘O’ and ‘A’ level examinations will resume on 5 January to 5 February 2021 as previously announced”, added the Ministry.

They also said that having deferred the opening of schools beyond 04 January , the dates for the commencement of the 2021 Schools Calendar for all primary and secondary schools will be announced in due course as the Government monitors the situation.
