Lafarge to sponsor ZUJ’s NJAMA for the sustainability category award

Zimbabwe Union of Journalists to receive a boost, it was revealed at the Journalists’ Sustainability Reporting Workshop held by Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe in partnership with Practical Action in Harare Friday.
The workshop whose aim is to acquaint participants with in-depth insight into corporate and community sustainability issues so as to further enhance the quality of reporting on the subject was attended journalists from different media houses.

ZUJ secretary- general Foster Dongozi giving the vote of thanks asked Lafarge for sponsorship on the  sustainability category award in the annual  National Journalism and Media Awards(NJAMA).
Lafarge Head of Communications Tsungie Manyeza greenlighted the project as she pledged that they were going to sponsor  ZUJ for  the award.” We are pleased to notify you that Lafarge will sponsor ZUJ to have the sustainability award”, she said.
Issues addressed at the workshop were the  environment policy framework in Zimbabwe, energy landscape in Zimbabwe  and opportunities for sustainable energy, sustainable energy projects for community development, sustainable solid waste management with regards to the challenges and opportunities, climate change and business practises, sustainable urban expansion and wetlands preservation, sustainable a d profitable land use models and sustainable community support programmes by Tsungie Manyeza.
Axis Consult Engineer Edwin Zimunga said energy was a big aspect on sustainability such that it has its own goal which is Sustainable Development Goal number 7.
Power Afrika’s Mr Leonard Muyambo said although climate change is more in Sustainable Development Number 13 which is called Climate Action, it is noticeable in different news beats whether sports, business, health arts, politics and technology to mention but a few news beats.
Environment Management Agency’s (EMA) Mr Liberty Mugadza said local authorities should play a pivotal part for the rules and regulations by EMA to be followed by the citizens.
“For Harare City to be without litter everywhere, the municipality police should see to it that those who throw litter everywhere are arrested according to EMA regulations”, said Mr Mugadza.
Other panelists who took to the podium were Zibusiso Ncube with Practical Action, Sharmstha Nandi with Lafarge Holcim  Geocycle who had a virtual presantation and Mr Charles Mabika with Had are City Council.
Sustainable means capable of continuing for a long time at the same level. Lafarge is one of the corporates with a strong commitment to operate a sustainable business model in Zimbabwe.
