Zim applauds Russia for Sputnik-V vaccine

The Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe applauded the Government of the Russian Federation for coming up with the Sputnik-V vaccine and affirmed its readiness to cooperate with the Russian Federation in combating the worldwide scourge Thursday.
Zimbabwe- Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Trade, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation held a video conference Thursday.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Hon Lt Gen(Rtd) Sibusiso Moto led Zimbabwe’ s delegation co-chairing the meeting with Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation Honourable Dimitry Kobylkin.
The negotiations were held in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding .
The parties exchanged views on the Zimbabwean- Russian cooperation in different fields and highlighted on the role of the commission as an important mechanism for taking bilateral relations to a qualitative level.
“The Government of Zimbabwe expressed its gratitude to the Government of  Russian Federation  for the donation of PPE in support of the efforts to combat the global Covid-19 pandemic” reads a press release.
The parties expressed their readiness to intensify the preparation for the signing of various bilateral documents in various sectors including mining; higher education; science, technology and innovation; energy; health among others; and to implement provisions of various Agreements already signed.
Representatives from other Ministries  also attended the video – conference.
