Triathlete Laurelle Brown who finished second at the 2020 Bonaqua Troutbeck ATU Triathlon African Cup in her elite women debut has urged upcoming triathletes to do the sport they love most for them to excel.
She encouraged young triathletes in an interview to follow their hearts not just do things because it has to be so.” I think its really important to follow your heart. You need to do the sport because you love it not because you need to or have to”, she said.
The triathlete who have been absent from competitive events for about 6 years years revealed that she started training for the 2020 Bonaqua Troutbeck ATU Triathlon African Cup at the end of December.” Unfortunately I have had an issue with my shoulder and so have not been able to do all the training I hoped for”, she revealed.
She also said she was anticipating to feature in the event much.” I wanted to come in to this race and just see how I fired against the other athletes who have been training and competing full time.”, she said.
At the moment the 25 year- old lady who lifted the Zimbabwe’s flag high in Nyanga has no competitive triathlon events on cards in the meantime. ” I haven’t got any plans for upcoming triathlons. I am hoping to get a good block of winter training in and do Vic Falls half marathon and a few more runs later in the year”, she added.
She said the Troutbeck race was not tense to her maybe because she was racing in her native country.”I think for me Troutbeck is a race that is a lot more relaxed. You know the people, the course and being at home makes it so much easier. However there is a bit more pressure to do well as the spotlight is on you”, she said.
