In a bid to raise awareness about the sexual and reproductive health and rights among men 37- year old Francis Kaowa of Highfield has set up a boozers league and is in partnership with various SRHR organisations to develop his community.
Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) are for all but men do not usually participate in such programmes like their female counterparts.
”We are going to use the platform of boozers soccer league to meet men and educate them on their SRHR. We have already engaged corporates like Delta Beverages, National Aids Council(NAC) and Zimbabwe Community Health Intervention Research Project”, said Francis Kaowa the chairman of Captain Francis Boozers League. He is also talking with Padare which deal;s with men issues.
Through the partners men have brochures will be given about SRHR free testing and counselling will transpire.
Currently the boozers’ league have 14 teams with one from Glen -Norah called Mashan-shan and the rest are from Highfield.
Francis Kaowa affectionately known as Captain Francis,is a staunch Caps United supporter born and bred in Highfield has a passion in building his community through community development.He is a business man who has a bottle store Captain Francis Enterprises and trades as Buymore Enterprises in Highfield.
“I always visit Europe and there I have been sourcing funds for our boozers league”, revealed Francis Kaowa in an interview.He shared his idea to Elke Timm about building his community through sport and Elke agreed to sponsor the league through cash and kind as well as with Captain Francis Enterprises.
The donations were sourced before the Captain Francis Boozers League. Elke Timm who comes from Germany is currently in America and is sourcing funding from her pals in America for the boozers league. Uwe Leopold and Frank both from America has already chipped in in helping the league.
“Its our first year but we have managed to go smoothly half way our season.”Whilst running the boozers’ league and improving the league we also aim to establish a soccer academy for funds sourced our sponsors’, said Francis Kaowa.
“There is competition in the league as they arev not playing boozing but each team want to be at the top of the log.However we are having challenges of some teams fielding players from Divisions soccer leagues”, he added.
Francis Kaowa also revealed that through Captain Francis Enterprises, he is giving back to the community as part of social responsibility.”We are paying fees for 20 students and we are expecting to increase the number besides buying groceries for vulnerable in the Highfield community”, he explained.
Donald Sachikonye affectionately known as “Madhonavho”, is the league vice -chairman and is excited about the development shown so far.”2020 is going to be a better year because as boozers we are going to have clean up campaigns every 1st Friday of each month as what President Mnangagwa is advocating
