Harare shines at BMX National Champs

Standing alone is Emmanuel Gore as he leads.

Harare BMX Club retained most of the medals at the National BMX Championships with the Gore family dominating on Saturday.

In tennis we spoke highly of the Black brothers while in soccer we had the Ndlovu family and at the BMX National 2019 finals the Gore family proved to be a force to reckon as a family.

The BMX National Championships have 6 qualifiers and the final race.In the qualifier the winnr is awarded 50 points with runner ups having 5 points less descending according to positions in each race. The final race had the points doubled and the points are added to find the winner in each age group

Harare through Harare BMX Club colected 8 gold medals whilst Busters from Bulawayo had 2 gold medals.

The under 6 races were intriguing as Sofia Colladon and Elisha Gore were excellent.

They both came first in the separate heats they raced.
Sofia however came first in the final race.”I am happy to win “, said Sofia Colladon who will be representing Zimbabwe at the World Championships in Belgium this year.

Joanna Gore shrugged off stiff competition from Nkosilathi Nkala in the 7 years olds group. She came first in all the 7 races.”It is nice to win.I followed my coach’s instructions that we should put more power when pedalling as I pedaled fast”, said elated Joaana Gore.

Marcus Nascimento came first in the 8 years group whilst Tariq Shelton clinched gold in the ten years olds.

Emmanuel Gore had a scintillating performance as he won all the 7 races by keeping a wide space behind between other riders.”I am looking forward to the World Championships.I was there once in America and I hope this time around will finish a better position”, he said.

Liam Nel was the first in the 11 years and Daniel Collet scooped gold in the 12 years age group.”Spencer Muchamiri was racing well.He had an upper hand in the first two races.I then managed to cut him off on the inside to win.I was at the World Championships in Holland 2014 “, said Daniel Collet.

Although Spence Muchamiri raced with Daniel Collet, he clinched gold in the 13 years olds as they are from different age groupsJoe Ruwokinwon in the 15 years olds although he cause havoc whilst he raced with the cruiser age group.Coach Andrew Mwanjali won in the cruiser.

Coach Tatenda Mbalami from Busters BMX did not race but was overwhelmed by the outcome.”I have two riders for the World Championships and they raced well. They are Sofia and Now Colladon”, he said.Borhbckubs will be at the South Africa National Championships in South Africa in two weeks time.

National BMX president Willem Krause said,”This is an eye opener for the riders as this platform shows them what calibre they can meet in their BMX races regionally or internationally. I wish the riders good luck in their World Championships”.
