St Ignatius clinch Peter Lovemore memorial trophy

17 -year- old Brian Chuma propelled St Ignatius’ win in the 2 day Hammer and Tongues St George’s College under 20 invitational tournament last Friday and Saturday with his scintillating saves in the penalty shoot outs.

Brian Chuma made immaculate saves that became the talk of the tournament. The 25 team tournament is also held in honor of late sports commentator Peter Lovemore. Hammer and Tongues are celebrating their 20th anniversary whilst the tournament was in its 7th edition .

St Ignatius met Peter House in the in the final after the former had progressed from the group stages, quarter finals and the semi finals through penalty shoot outs.Peter House who came second played well after beating defending champions Inkomo 7-0 a wide margin scoreline at the tourney.

St Ignatius walked away with US$400 whilst individuals got prizes in different categories of excellence.

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Professor Paul Mavhima who was the guest of honor appointed Hammer and Tongues CEO Brian Makwavarara as an ambassador for the development of sport in schools.

“He is to mobilize and set soccer academies in schools”, said the Minister.Brian Makwavarara was honored for his tireless work in sport development through sponsoring the event.

Brian Chuma was voted the goal keeper of the tournament and player of the tournament .” Ia m excited about the achievements. Never thought I would scoops such gongs at the event”, he said in an interview. He went on to thank the organizers of the tourney.Ephraim Mazarura, former Warriors goalkeeper pledged his personal gloves and his national team jersey to Brian Chuma .

A 25 member team was selected.
