
More than 16 primary schools battled it out at the 2019 Dairibord Rugby Schools Festival at Prince Edward on Sunday with newcomers labeling it a big hitter.
Fungai Mukazhi a coach with Darwin held the fest in high esteem.’Its a good exposure for the kids and good for development of the game nationwide”’ he said.
Darwin from Mt Darwin started playing rugby in 2017.”Our main challenge is that we are the only primary school that plays rugby in Mt Darwin ,so we train our kids without game time”, he revealed.
His opinion was concurred by Mr Taurainashe Chinyemba who coaches Sinoia from Chinhoyi.”The tournament is good for the boys as they have to learn new rules.It was Sinoia’s first time and he advised upcoming youngsters to love rugby, live rugby and play rugby.He bemoaned lack of rugby expose in many schools as the main focus was on academics.
Matongo from which established the sport last year was there for the first time also.Their coach Richard Rambi was overwhelmed by the competition at the festival.He said the tournament was well sponsored making it big and lovely.
