ZRU president in the Rugby Africa Executive Committee


Tucked away near Prince Edward School’s Jubilee Field are the offices of the Zimbabwe Rugby Union(ZRU), seemingly the administration is becoming a big beast with its latest being the turn around of Kwese 7’s that is inevitably noticed.

The ZRU president recently made it in the Executive Committee at the most prestigious Rugby Africa, a feat healthy to the local rugby.

On Kwese 7’s to be played this Saturday and Sunday st Old Hararians Sports Club , the administration has moved the venue of the rugby tournament from Victoria Falls to Harare. Although Victoria Falls is a good tourist resort, the attendance has been paltry as fans are concerned and Harare was the last resort.

Apart from the shift on the venue, Kwese 7’s has opened doors to the schools and women rugby to participate at the event.The tournament which is important on the local rugby calendar in terms of preparation as most leagues have not yet resumed coincided with the HBSC World Rugby Sevens Series in Hong Kong

The Cheetahs will be touring Hong Kong on the 6th and 7th April and will maximize on the tournament to prepare for their HBSC World Rugby Sevens Series

Foreign teams expected to play on the day are Georgia, Lesotho, Malawi, Botswana and Zambia. Botswana will field both men and women teams from a club called Spartans. The club has the most Zimbabwean rugby players based in Botswana. Other countries will have national players.

Locally Zimbabwe will be represented by Zambezi Steelers, Zambezi Cheetahs, Go Shawks and Mbare Academy.

Allan Wilson Prince Edward, Goromonzi, Churchill, Hellenic and Wise Owl are the schools in this year’s edition .
