Glen-Norah Stadium has stood the test of time

MashanShan Fc before a match at Glen-norah
Stadium recently.

While other notable Stadiums have dwindled in oblivion with the space being used for urban farming, Glen-Norah Stadium is still functioning with a hive of social soccer matches over the weekend.

Glen-View ‘s Stadium widely known as “Chemhanza” is now  being used as a piece of land for farming by the locals. The Stadium used to have matches for the Zifa division 2 and 3 in 1990’s.

Glen-Norah community produced yester-year  football stars like George Shaya, late Freddy Mkwesha, the late Friday Phiri, the late George Nechironga Snr Francis Nechironga ,George Nechironga Jnr, the late Tobias Sibandal, the late Kimathi Dhlamini,Silver Chingwenje,Basil Chisope and Mike Madzivanyika when he used to live in the ghetto to mention but afew.

Although the Stadium is dilapidating with the toilets and changing rooms in abyss, activities like junior training for big clubs clubs such as Dynamos FC shows that history is a living tissue for the once famous Stadium.

League matches for Zifa Division 2 and 3 were the order of the weekends at the Stadium in the 1990’s.Many teams were promoted in the top flight using the Stadium as their favourite ground.Hackney FC,  and  Sporting Lions at that time owned by Thomas Mapfumo were a pleasure to watch at Glen-Norah Stadium before being promoted in the top flight league.

The love of sport in the community has not been derailed by the flagging economy .The community  produced players in the late 90’s like Michael  Bingadadi, Tinashe Nengomashe,Artwell Mabhiza and Justin Bingadadi to mention but a few.
