
All roads lead to Gwanda as Gwanda High School hosts the annual National Association of Secondary School Heads (NASH)baseball tournament kicking off this Thursday up to Saturday , with seven provinces likely to participate .

Gwanda High School will be hosting the event for the first time which was hosted by Allan Wilson High School last year. Gwanda High School as hosts automatically qualifies . Each of the 7 provinces provides 4 teams, 2 for under 16 and 2 for under 20. Sakubva High School under 20 and Zimuto Secondary School under 16 have also automatically qualified on the virtue that they are the defending champions in their respective age groups.Both girls and boys will be participating.
NASH baseball head Mr Magwenzi said the preparations have been pleasing with NASH donating the trophy for the baseball tournament.” Some provinces are not participating, that is Mash East , Mat North and Mat South but however our aim is to take the sport to every corner of the country”, he said.
He bemoaned lack of corporate sponsorship as shortage of equipment hampered the sport to be played in many schools.”The costs of helmets, sticks , balls and uniforms are to expensive for most schools and we are appealing to the corporate world to come on board and sponsor”, he revealed.
Mr Magwenzi also castigated age cheating and selection for teams playing in the national levels as a cancer bedeviling in the sport thus killing development of the sport.” Age cheating is abhorred and also blending of teams at national level competitions should be shunned.Schools should not pick other students from their provinces but use those that they qualified with only”, he added.
The NASH national baseball tournament is also a platform for students to be noticed and be picked for baseball national team.
