Castle Premier Soccer League top goal scorer and Bantu Rovers captain Bukhosi Sibanda left for South Africa on Friday in search of greener pastures and was signed for a three year contract with a South Africa side according to Bantu Rovers official website.
He has joined South Africa’s National First Division side Ubuntu Cape Town Football Club.
The former Gifford High school student made his Premier Soccer League debut at the age of 16 in 2014 and at the end of that season was made captain of Bantu Rovers. He took over captaincy from now FC Platinum player Nqobizitha Masuku and has been known in the team for his loyalty and leadership
Last season Bukhosi led Bantu Rovers to the Southern Region Division One League Championship and was also captain of the Under 20 National team.
He was part of the team that won gold in the Copa Coca-Cola Championship in South Africa and was selected as part of the Copa team that toured Chelsea Football Club.
Sibanda was the second runner up in the Southern Region League last season.
Bantu Rovers chief executive officer Wilbert Sibanda said Bukhosi leave big shoes to feel for the young Bantu side.
“He has left big shoes to fill and this is an opportunity for the youngster to step into them. We have a number of promising young players in the team who we feel can do the job,” he said.
Bukhosi was the leading scorer in the league with 10 goals and was one shy of last season’s Golden Boot winner Leonard Tsipa who amassed 11 throughout the season.
“He will be sorely missed because of his loyalty and leadership. We wish him the best and hope this is not his destination but a stepping stone for greater achievements. We also hope that this is the beginning of a long lasting relationship with Ubuntu Cape Town,” he said.
Bukhosi played his last match against Bulawayo City where they drew nil-all.
Meanwhile Lucky Ndlela will take over as captain while former under18 captain Shadreck Nyahwa could be made vice captain.
