Allan Wilson affectionately known as the Sables ended the 2017 Dairibord Schools Rugby Festival with a win over Heritage 24-8 in a tightly contested match Saturday Day 7.
Allan Wilson had marvelous play as their energetic forwards propelled a 10-8 win in the 1st half.Sables coach Mr Victor Pekani commended the festival as a place to engage with others in trying to play better rugby.”We were not looking for a win but it was for the boys to mingle with other teams and adjust to play better rugby.
He later bemoaned the tendency by teams in the Super 8 league to segregate teams as refused to play with them .” The issue of teams like St John’s Emerald College , St Georges and other Super 8 refusing to play with teams like us shows lack of understanding of the festival”, he said.
He encouraged the organizers and sponsors to let the festival be not competitive but an event for exposure to the young ones.”At Allan Wilson, we had young boys for future use not to win our matches”, he added.Allan Wilson in their pre -season matches played at Harts-field Rugby Festival in Bulawayo.
The Sables won 2 matches and lost 2 matches. They beat Plumtree High on Day 1, lost to Lomagundi 24-10 on Day 3, narrowly edged by Milton High 7-5 on Day 3v before wrapping up the festival with a win against Heritage.
