The Zimbabwe senior women’s national team will take on hosts South Africa, India and Ireland in a 50-over quadrangular series in the North West city of Potchefstroom in May.

While South Africa and India will be using the four-team tournament to prepare for the ICC Women’s World Cup scheduled for June-July this year in England, the quadrangular series will be a major boost for the inexperienced Zimbabwe.

“This is the first time for Zimbabwe women to be invited to such a tournament, which is really great as these top teams are helping to promote and improve the game,” Zimbabwe Cricket women’s cricket coordinator Caroline Nyamande said.“To us, it is a great opportunity to play once again on the same platform as India and South Africa. We can only improve our game this way”, she added.

Zimbabwe will leave for South Africa on Monday, the 1st of May, three days before taking on India in an official warm-up match scheduled for Witrand Oval in Potchefstroom.

The opening match of the quadrangular series will pit South Africa against Zimbabwe on Sunday, the 7th of May, at Senwes Park.Next for Zimbabwe will be the game against Ireland, also at Senwes Park, on the 9th of May.

Two days later, Zimbabwe will face India at the PUK Oval, the same venue that will host Zimbabwe’s next two matches against South Africa and Ireland on the 15th and 17th of May respectively.Zimbabwe will then meet India again on the 19th of May at Senwes Park.

The playoffs to determine the final standings of the quadrangular series are scheduled for the 21st of May.
