2016 sporting year had it’s saints and sinners and it  is the time of the year when  new year’s resolutions come into mind of everyone and we give credits to those who had managed to have a good character throughout the year.

Dr Phillip Chiyangwa is our saint as he robustly changed the image of Zimbabwe football by having sponsor in .Since he has been at the helm of the Zifa leadership Dr Phil has brought in Sir Wicknell Chivayo at the time of need at Zifa thereby transforming the association which was about to get into an abyss. He has became the man of the people in the football circles.

The Mighty Warriors as a team qualify to be  our 2016 saints as they qualified for Olympic games in  August  and the Afwcon earlier this year. The hardships bedevilling the women football did not deter the ladies’ spirit of patriotism by lifting the Zimbabwe flag high. Their efforts can not go unmentioned in the sports arena.

Zimbabwe Women’s league vice chairperson Cecilia Gambe is among the sinners. It was alleged that she invaded the pitch and abused a  referee during a match in Mutare on May 8.Gambe allegedly abused Brighton Chineme when she invaded the pitch in a match pitting  Mutare City and How Mine.

Victoria Falls Tigers defender Lethukuthula is our sinner due to his violence against a referee. He is alleged to have punched  referee Bekezela Makeka several times in retaliation to a red card that had been brandished by the official on 25 September 20126.

Bulawayo city duo in the technical team who tried to bribe Border Strikers goal keeper are in the sinners category as fair play should be the order of the day in soccer. Farai Mujokoro and Gift Mvala appeared before PSL disciplinary hearing to answer charges to bribery and match fixing in September this year. The charges rose from allegations by Border Strikers that City wanted to bribe their goalkeeper Talent Sande to win more than 3 goals in a league match the Bulawayo side won 1-o at Beitbridge.Fair play should be adhered to in football.
