The Zimbabwe A squad for the first four dayer against South Africa A is a mixture of experienced players such as Tinotenda Mawoyo, Chakabva, Timycen Maruma, Shingirai Masakadza and Brian Vitori and the upcoming like 20-year-olds Gumbie and Musakanda and Victor Nyauchi who turned 23 this month.

The national selection panel will reduce the Zimbabwe A practice squad to the 15 for the first four-day match against South Africa A.

 

The South Africans are expected to arrive on Wednesday, for the four-day match which begins at Harare Sports Club on Saturday.

 

Zimbabwe A coach Douglas Hondo has been working with a squad of 22 players for the past fortnight, focusing on various aspects of the game. They have spent a lot of time in the nets and also on fielding drills.

 

Periodically, they have broken into groups to concentrate on specialist skills, with assistant coach and former Matabeleland and Zimbabwe wicket-keeper Wayne James working with glove men Regis Chakabva, Joylord Gumbie, Tarisai Musakanda and Forster Mutizwa.

 

After the Harare match, Zimbabwe A will host South Africa A in another four-dayer, which will be at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo from the 15th of this month.

 

Proteas’ new Test opener, Stephen Cook, leads the 15-man South Africa A squad, which includes other Test players such as Vernon Philander, Dane Piedt, Stiaan van Zyl and Dane Vilas.
