Injury rules out Panyangara and Burl

Panyangara 2

Zimbabwe bowler Tinashe Panyangara and all-rounder Ryan Burl are both unavailable for the forthcoming tour by India, due to injury.

Both travelled with the national squad last Sunday for the training camp at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

However, Panyangara complained of right lower-back pain during a net session on Monday and did not play in the two 50-over practice matches the squad had at Queens on Tuesday and Thursday.

The pace bowler, who has been troubled by a back disc bulge for some time, seemed to have recovered well from a left lower-back pain and had bowled for 30 minutes before his latest challenge.

The senior men’s national team physiotherapist, Anesu Mupotaringa, said further investigations will need to be done to find out the cause of the recurrent back injuries and so Panyangara has been referred to a neurologist for further assessment and management.

Burl sustained a right knee injury during a touch rugby game at Queens on Wednesday morning, when he lost control and twisted his knee as he fell. An x-ray confirmed no bone fracture but a magnetic resonance imaging scan showed tears in his ligaments.

Burl was discharged on crutches and a half cast on his knee to limit movement. He will be seen by a knee specialist to determine how best the damage can be repaired.
